Which tufting starter kit should you choose?
- Ultimate Tufting Starter Kit with AK-V + Frame: the complete setup. AK-V tufting gun, 90x90 cm tabletop frame with two table clamps and cloth grippers, 200x200 cm primary tufting cloth, 200x200 cm anti-slip backing, rug carving clippers, a shaving guide, duckbill scissors and sewing machine oil. Ships in two boxes.
- Tufting Starter Kit with AK-V: for makers who build their own frame. The same gun, cloth, backing and finishing tools as the Ultimate kit, without the frame. Ships in one box.
- Basic Tufting Starter Kit: the essentials. AK-V, 200x200 cm primary tufting cloth, duckbill scissors and sewing machine oil. You add a frame and yarn.
Starting from nothing? Take the Ultimate kit with frame. Have a frame, or want to build one? Take the kit without frame.
What's in the kit
- AK-V tufting gun: cut and loop pile, a brushless motor with up to 60% less noise, a real-time speed display and a front LED light. 1.4 kg, 100–240V with EU plug.
- Primary tufting cloth, 200x200 cm: woven yellow guide lines every 5 cm, enough for several medium-sized rugs.
- Anti-slip backing, 200x200 cm (Ultimate and kit without frame): glued to the back of your rug so it stays in place.
- Finishing tools: rug carving clippers with a speed regulator up to 6,000 rpm and a shaving guide for an even pile (Ultimate and kit without frame), plus duckbill scissors for loose yarn (all kits).
How to start with your tufting kit
- Stretch the cloth on your frame until it sounds like a drum when you tap it.
- Draw your design on the cloth. The 5 cm guide lines help you scale it.
- Tuft your design with the AK-V. Most people are on their way after less than 15 minutes of practice.
- Cover the back with latex carpet glue and let it dry.
- Glue on the anti-slip backing, then shave and carve the front.
What else do you need?
- Tufting yarn: 52 colours of wool and 60 colours of polyester.
- Latex carpet glue: buy it at your local hardware store. We don't sell glue because it is too heavy to ship.
- A tufting frame or cloth grippers if you choose the Basic kit or the kit without frame.

Which tufting kit is best for beginners?
The Ultimate Tufting Starter Kit with AK-V + Frame. It has everything except yarn and glue, including the frame, so you can start straight away.
Do I need the kit with a frame?
Only if you don't have a frame yet. The kit without frame and the Basic kit are for people who build their own frame with cloth grippers.
Is yarn included?
No. You choose the yarn for your design yourself from our wool and polyester tufting yarn.
Is glue included?
No. We don't sell glue. Buy latex carpet glue at your local hardware store.
How quickly can I learn to tuft?
With the AK-V most people are on their way after less than 15 minutes of practice. Start with a simple design.
Which tufting gun is in the kits?
All our kits include the AK-V, our newest model. It does cut and loop pile and works on 100–240V with an EU plug.
What warranty do I get?
