What is polyester tufting yarn good for
Polyester tufts a smooth, silky pile with bright, saturated colour. That makes it a favourite for wall pieces, plush accent rugs, and any design where softness and vibrancy lead — and the lower price per cone means it also carries high-volume and commercial work without driving up material cost.
Polyester or wool
The difference comes down to character. Wool is the rugged one: natural loft, long-term resilience, depth of colour. Polyester is the soft one: silkier to the touch, brighter in colour, lighter on cost. Many makers use both — wool where durability matters, polyester where feel and colour do.
How many colours are there
The polyester range covers 60 colours, so you can match almost any design without compromising on shade. Browse the shades below to find the colours for your next project.
How much yarn will I need
As a rule of thumb, a 50x50 cm rug takes around 500 to 700 g of yarn, and a full square metre roughly 2 to 3 kg, depending on pile height and how densely you tuft. Read our yarn planning guide for the full calculation, and order a cone extra so one colour never stalls the piece.
