Your tufting gun is a precision tool with metal parts that move at high speed. Without regular oiling, friction builds up, causing heat, wear, and eventually damage to the motor. A few drops of oil every two hours of use is all it takes to keep your machine running smoothly for years.

This guide applies to all three of our tufting machines: the AK-V, AK-1N DUO, and AK-1H Long Pile.

What oil should I use?

We recommend our Eurol® Sewing Machine Oil (100ml). It’s an acid-free lubricant based on paraffinic oil, suited for tufting machines. It’s colourless and odourless, so it won’t stain or leave any residue on your yarn or rugs. A single bottle lasts a long time, you only need a few drops per session.

Where to oil

Apply a small drop of oil to the metal rods (bars) that move back and forth inside your machine. These are the parts that generate the most friction during use. You can also put a drop into the holes of the white sliders where the rod passes through.

See the image above for the exact oiling points on each machine. We’ve marked them with orange and it is the same for AK-V, AK-1N, and AK-1H.

Turn the machine off and oil all 4 metal rods in front of the white cubes. Turn the machine on and press the trigger to move the oil around.

Do not oil any electronic components, gears or the motor. We see this mentioned online but that will damage your tufting machine.

How often

Oil your machine every 2 hours of active tufting or sooner if you feel they are dry. If you’re doing a shorter session, a quick drop before you start is good practice. Before oiling, brush away any loose yarn fibres around the moving parts, this keeps debris from mixing with the oil.

Regular oiling is the simplest thing you can do to protect your investment and keep your tufting sessions frustration-free. If you have any questions about maintaining your machine, reach out to us , we’re happy to help.
